Club News

From the President – Joe Furino

Welcome to my page.  If you are already a member, feel free to give me any constructive feedback for myself, our club, or our golf course.  If you are thinking of becoming a member, now is the time…and Dairy Creek is the place.

I became a member three years ago, after asking around as to which club was active, yet friendly.  Everyone agreed the club to choose was the Dairy Creek Men’s Club, and it is my goal to continue that consensus through my term in office.

We try to have about 14 or15 Saturday tournaments per year with gross and net winners, closest to the pin, (optional) skins, and if the turnout is large enough…two flights of net winners.  Our last two tournaments had about 80 participants each, and had three flights of winners.

Send an e-mail to me, or other officers if you have any questions.  Come out and play, meet new friends or see old friends, and have a good time playing golf with the Dairy Creek Men’s Golf Club.

  Joe Furino, President for 2010

Tournament News

2009 was another fun tournament year, and our 2010 schedule will offer similar opportunities for our members to enjoy our club offerings. In addition to our regular tournaments, we held a Home-and-Home with Chalk Mountain and are attempting to schedule a similar event with Morro Bay and/or Rancho Maria clubs for 2010.

As usual, the tournament sign-up sheet will be available in the pro shop next to the computer. Also, you may e-mail Creighton Decker (morroan@charter.net), or Kent Lauble (kent@centralcoastgolf.com) to register. We will consider accommodating special requests for tee times, while continuing to maintain integrity and fairness to the field when considering such requests. Tee times will generally be e-mailed Thursday evening, and posted in the pro shop Friday. Tournament fees will be collected at check-in, and we ask that you check-in no later than 1/2 hour prior to your tee time.

As usual, the tournament committee is always looking for ways to improve our tournaments, and increase participation. It is your club, so your inputs are encouraged, and will be appreciated.

Distance measuring devices are allowed.
As of January 1st 2006, DCMGC has enacted a policy matching the USGA recommendation.

Distance-Measuring Devices:  For all play at this course, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures DISTANCE ONLY.  This information may be shared with partners or competitors (anyone).    However, a player is disqualified if he uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure any other condition that might affect his play (e.g., slope, gradient, wind-speed, temperature, direction, etc), EVEN if that feature is not used or turned on. Valid devices are rangefinders, laser rangefinders, Sky Caddies, etc.

Cell phone ringing ban, use restriction.
"Heretofore, any cell phone, pager or other electronic device making sound that attracts the attention of any player during a stipulated round, whether it interrupts play or not, will incur a two-stroke penalty. A second incidence will result in disqualification."
It is preferable that no cell phone be taken on the course at all.  However, if a player must be electronically available during a tournament, it is mandatory that he configure his cell phone for silent operation.  He may then place an outgoing cell phone call after his group has putted-out on a given green, and must end it before anyone in his group tees-off on the next hole.

From the Pro – Kent Lauble

From the Treasure – Paul Fasching

Without going into the boring details, let me just say this: we will have a break-even year by spending everything we bring in, (minus club operation expenses), on tournament prizes and awards. It makes perfect economic sense that members participating in tournaments reap the greatest rewards of membership.

From the Handicap Chairman – John Gardner

Handicap Stickers are GONE!!  If you want a paper copy of your handicap, go to www.NCGA.org and register your email address to receive a link to a nice color page of your handicap and some history, which can be printed and used for identification.  You can also get your current handicap on ANY handicap computer at any NCGA Golf course.

2010 Handicap Index Cut-Off Dates:  Beginning January 2010, NCGA handicaps will be revised on the 1st and 15th of each month . . . 24 revisions in all for 2010.  This new revision schedule will offer more timely handicap updates during our peak seasons and to those who post a lot of scores.

These are the dates that electronic transmissions of scores and transactions must be received by GHIN in order to appear on the following 1st and 15th of-the-month handicaps.
All cut-off dates fall on the 14th or last day of the month. This means that any scores and transactions successfully transmitted to GHIN by 6:00 p.m. (P.S.T.) on the evening of the 14th or last day of the month will be reflected handicaps issued the following day.

Golfers can view their current Handicap Index via 1) the popular Handicap Look-up feature on our website (http://www.ncga.org/); 2) an automatic e-mail revision report (nearly 90,000 NCGA members currently subscribe); and 3) via computer screen at all NCGA golf courses (steps are being taken so that the current Handicap Index of every NCGA member will be directly available at every NCGA golf course).

Board Meetings:

Board meetings are at 2:15pm on the first Friday of the month at Dairy Creek in the restaurant. Any member can attend and participate in the “Club News” portion of the meeting.
